Thirty-five Palestinians have died of hunger in the past 72 hours, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported today. Another 78 were massacred by Israeli occupation forces who fired indiscriminately into crowds of starving people making their way toward distribution sites run by the Gaza “Humanitarian” Foundation. 

On Sunday, Israeli forces killed at least 94 Palestinians as they tried to get food aid. Just this morning, Israeli forces martyred 21, including seven seeking aid. Since May, Israeli forces have martyred over 1,000 Palestinians while they were seeking food, the U.N. human rights office said Tuesday. Malnutrition is especially fatal for the young: Of the 113 Palestinians in Gaza who’ve been killed by famine so far, at least 80 are children. (Almost half of Gaza’s population is under 18 years old.) 

Anas Al-Sharif reports that “85 percent of Gaza's population has entered the ‘fifth stage’ of malnutrition” — the most critical and dangerous phase, often causing irreversible organ damage. This means that even if the starved person eats a week from now, their health cannot be restored.

The death toll from aid-related incidents in Gaza has reached 995, with over 6,000 injured and dozens still missing, according to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Government Media Office in Gaza. The statement reported that these casualties occurred between May 27 and July 20, 2025.

The office accused Israeli occupation forces of targeting desperate civilians trying to reach aid convoys, adding that the victims were primarily starving individuals seeking basic necessities.

Palestinians have sounded the alarm for months. The U.S.-Israeli Zionist alliance marches ahead, deliberately starving two million residents who have survived 21 months of missile attacks, sniper drones and endless bombs. 

And the world sits and watches. We sit and watch, too. But the time to act was yesterday.

Gaza Soup Kitchen is run by the Almadhoun family and their friends. Gaza Soup Kitchen sources ingredients from remaining farms, and buys supplies as soon as they hit the market in order to provide hot meals for displaced families. Water for Khan Younis is an initiative to support clean drinking water for displaced Palestinians in Al-Mawasi, in southern Gaza. With the donations so far, they have been able to deliver two drinking water trucks on a daily basis (6,000L or 7,500L each day). tinyurl.com/khanyouniswater

For many months, we have known that The New York Times is an accomplice to the genocide in Gaza, serving as a mouthpiece for American imperialism and shaping elite consensus around foreign policy. Times editors have told reporters to avoid “inflammatory terms” like “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing,” and “occupied territory” — and even to avoid saying “Palestine.” Headline writers have manipulated the English language and deployed tricks of syntax to obscure the U.S. and Israel’s perpetration of atrocities and blame Palestinians for their own oppression. Reporters have printed the Israeli military’s lies.

The Times’ commitment to Zionism is systemic and generational. WAWOG identified several NYT employees who are individually and structurally incentivized to run cover for war criminals. Times journalists have served in elite Israeli special forces, lived in homes stolen from Palestinian families during the Nakba, and encouraged their children to join the Israeli Occupation Forces to help kill kids.

Such an indictment demands a public response. Journalistic malpractice enables the weapons shipments that sustain the war on Gaza. The mass slaughter of a besieged people must be named for what it is: the U.S. and Israel’s genocide. The New York Times must be held accountable for its complicity. As a comrade reminded us this week, “The New York Times is only as popular as we allow it to be.”
